Suzuki Education, also known as the “Mother Tongue Approach,” is a teaching philosophy based on Dr. Shin’ichi Suzuki’s observation that all children speak their own language with ease and proficiency at a very young age. Instructors utilizing the Suzuki method believe that “musical ability” is not an inborn talent, but an ability which can be developed. Any child who is properly trained can develop musical ability, just as all children develop the ability to speak their mother tongue.
Group Class reinforces concepts presented in lessons, provide opportunities for peer-learning, introduces children to performance situations, and motivates students to practice. Group classes are organized within a private teacher’s studio at the Extension Division. Registration for group classes will be offered as they are formed by the instructor.
Extension Division instructors utilize concepts drawn from the Suzuki Method appropriate to the student’s age and experience. Other teaching methods and concepts are used in tandem with Suzuki’s methodology to provide the most effective instruction possible.
